New Ad Highlights Seth Moulton’s Record of Opposing Progressive Policies
April 8, 2026 — An independent expenditure PAC backed by unions and environmental leaders is launching the first major ad campaign in Massachusetts’ U.S. Senate primary, with the debut of a new ad that highlights Senate candidate Seth Moulton’s lengthy record of opposing progressive policies.
“As the son of immigrants, it was painful to see Seth Moulton vote with Republicans in praise of ICE amid their brutal tactics,” said George Bachrach, former president of the Environmental League of Massachusetts and senior advisor to the Commonwealth Together PAC. “As a progressive Massachusetts Democrat, it was sad to see Moulton join Republicans in opposing Medicare for All and trashing Sen. Warren’s billionaire tax. As an environmental leader who believes climate change is an existential threat, it was disappointing to watch Moulton undercut the Green New Deal.”
The ad, titled ‘Run,’ calls out Moulton’s June 9, 2025 vote for a congressional resolution that thanked ICE for its work “protecting the homeland.” Months after Donald Trump took office in 2025 and masked, untrained ICE agents began terrorizing communities across the country, Moulton voted with Republicans to thank ICE for “protecting the homeland,” even though most Democrats voted no. At the time, J Street called the resolution, which also condemned antisemitism, ”exactly the kind of resolution you’d expect when MAGA hardliners hijack concerns about antisemitism to push their longstanding anti-immigrant, anti-democracy agenda.”
It’s not the only time Moulton has voted with Republicans to thank the agents of Trump’s deportation agenda for their work. On July 24, 2019, as Trump’s Border Patrol was being widely criticized for holding unaccompanied children and families in migrant border camps under harsh conditions, Moulton was the only Massachusetts congressperson to vote with Republicans for language ‘commending’ Border Patrol agents.
The ad also highlights Moulton’s lengthy record of opposing or criticizing key progressive policies like Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and Senator Warren’s billionaire tax.
-
Moulton opposes Medicare for All and has criticized single-payer healthcare as a “socialized government system.”
-
Moulton initially co-sponsored the Green New Deal, but then began criticizing it during his presidential campaign, calling the legislation “a bunch of socialist programs.”
-
After Senator Warren proposed an ‘Ultra-Millionaire tax’ on the country’s wealthiest 75,000 households, Moulton said Warren wanted to "punish the rich" and that the proposal was “un-American.”
The ad, backed by an initial six-figure media buy, will air on digital channels, connected television, and social media platforms. It’s the first of a planned multi-million-dollar ad campaign by the Commonwealth Together PAC, which was organized earlier this year to support Senator Ed Markey’s reelection and oppose Seth Moulton’s candidacy.
The PAC is backed by major labor unions including 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and the Massachusetts Teachers Union, as well as local environmental leaders and other supporters of Senator Markey’s leadership in the U.S. Senate.
“Massachusetts voters have a clear choice this September, and we're committed to helping voters understand what's at stake in this election. Ed Markey is the progressive champion in the Senate, with a record of delivering real results for Massachusetts,” said Lori Silveira, a New Bedford Public Schools educator and member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. “On the most important issues facing working families, like education, health care, the environment, and economic fairness, he's constantly ahead of the curve. We can always trust Ed Markey to put the people of Massachusetts first.”
"While Moulton claims to be a progressive, he eagerly takes massive donations from his private equity friends while doing their bidding,” said Bachrach. “While true progressives in MA are focused on fighting Trump, Moulton has spent his career trashing other Democrats, including the first woman Speaker of the US House. If Moulton claims to be a progressive, he doesn’t understand the meaning of the word.”
